Attention restoration theory holds that the effortful, directed attention screens demand is a finite resource: it depletes, and it needs recovering. Natural environments are proposed to restore it because they hold attention without demanding it, a stream and a canopy asking nothing of you. A large review of brain-imaging work has reported that natural scenes activate something like a built-in restoration system.
The joke is modern and the instruction underneath it is not. The machine says away, and something else gets a turn. 10% of every sale funds research into psychedelic therapy.
